On the Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show on Friday morning, baby name fever has gripped the Gift Grub studio. But which rugby baby names are actually popular, and which have never even made the list?
Judging from Friday morning’s Gift Grub sketch, it seems as though TodayFM must have read our popular Behind the Name post on the name Tadhg!
The sketch is referring to Tadhg Furlong – and his rugby teammates – of course, joking that babies born are all being named after our sporting heroes!
They’re not too far off the mark though – Tadhg is a seriously popular name right now. In 2022, Tadhg was ranked seventh of all baby boys recorded in Ireland with 324 baby boys recorded with the name Tadhg that year.
Jamison Gibson-Park was given a shout-out, too – and we don’t think that it would be much of a surprise if a few tiny Jamisons are found running around creches nationwide this time next year!
