  • This April I am back to travelling and the destination was Andalucia and Gibraltar for about a week of travelling. We like to travel relatively cheap, going with cheap hotels or single rooms in hostel. We rented a car and drove around because it was easier but it could easily be done with busses and train and for those who wish to travel on a tight budget. The trip went from Malaga to Gibraltar, then Ceuta by ferry and to Granada and back to Malaga. This will probably lead to a number of blog posts.

Although this blog is mainly dedicated to military history, I will make a small detour to cover the Basilica San Juan de Dios as it is truly spectatular.

As with such a trip I tend to visit a number of churches and cathedrals. While I am not a religious person, I do appreciate the roles the church has played in both the lives of ordinary people and politics of the day. This is something we should not neglect to understand in order to understand how people thought and did what they did back in the days.

Today, November 21, , we gathered in joy and gratitude at the San Juan de Dios Chapel to celebrate Sr. Grace's incredible 60th anniversary. The Thanksgiving Mass was celebrated by Fr. Daniel Franklin E. Pilario, CM, and attended by Sr. Grace’s sisters from various Daughters of Charity communities, her loving family, brothers from the Congregation of the Mission, members of the provincial Curia, and the Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA), whose support has been instrumental in helping Sr. Grace continue her mission.

In his homily, Fr. Pilario reflected on the miracle of Jesus turning water into wine at the Wedding of Cana (John ), emphasizing how God transforms ordinary lives into something extraordinary through faith, love, and service. Sr. Grace has embodied this transformation through 60 years of humble service, especially in serving the poor, treating them as our true masters, just as Christ taught us.

Her ongoing dedication to serving the marginalized, including through the help of the TODA, has touched the lives of many. May Sr. Grace’s life continue to inspire us all in our mission to serve with love, humility, and grace.
