UNESCO / IBE EXHIBITION
In December 2015 the International Bureau of Education (IBE) turned 90 and marked its 90th anniversary with an exhibition at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.
The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Michael Møller, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva; Mr. François Longchamp, President of the State Council of the Republic and Canton of Geneva; Mr. Alexandre Fasel, Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and to the other international organisations in Geneva; Ms. Mmantsetsa Marope, IBE Director; and Ms. Rita Hofstetter, Professor of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Geneva.
Through images, text and a floating timeline, the exhibition provided an overview of the history and milestones of IBE and also paid tribute to the many forerunners, innovators, and scholars in education who were and still are convinced that international dialogue and cooperation are essential for achieving true equality of opportunity in education for all children.
Based in Geneva, the IBE is the UNESCO’s Global Centre of Excellence in Curriculum and related matters. Established in 1925 in Geneva as a private institute by renowned Swiss educationists Edouard Claparède, Pierre Bovet and Adolphe

No question: 2015 was a year of critical introspection on what went well and what went wrong with internationally agreed goals (IAGs) and targets. Many cities hosted consultations: Paris, Muscat, Incheon, New York, and more. The international community took note of the remarkable progress in opening access to education, particularly at the basic level, and in less-developed countries.
It also acknowledged its broken promises. Consider the 6.2 million under-fives who die each year of preventable causes, the 161 million children with moderate to severe stunting who thus have a dim chance at effective lifelong learning, the 58 million children without access to primary education, the 61 million adolescents without access to secondary education, who are most likely to become multiply disengaged and excluded youth, and the 781 million youth and adults without basic literacy skills. Add in the millions of girls who have less chance at schooling than their brothers, the hundreds of millions of learners exposed to abysma
