Major International Conference on Challenges Facing Pakistan at Sarah Lawrence College April 4 -5
Mar. 26, 2014: An international conference on historical realities and current challenges facing the country of Pakistan will be held at Sarah Lawrence College in New York on April 4 and 5.
Re-Envisioning Pakistan: The Political Economy of Social Transformation will bring together scholars representing various disciplines in the humanities and social sciences, writers, journalists, and activists from Pakistan, the UK, and the US with a range of perspectives.
According to the organizers, SLC sociology faculty member Shahnaz Rouse and economics faculty member Jamee Moudud, Pakistan's socio-economic and political history has conventionally been analyzed and based on an orthodox "modernization" paradigm and a politics of governance that has been focused narrowly on questions of security while paying lip service to democracy. As against such approaches, this conference provides an alternative framework on Pakistan, one that moves beyond the headlines and simplistic understandings of Pakistan toward a more complex and nuanced approach to the place and its diverse "publics."
The keynote speaker is women's and human rights activist Hina Jilani, director of AGHS Legal Aid

Abstract
Background:
ARID1A is a key subunit of the SWI/SNF complex which regulates dynamic repositioning of nucleosomes to repair DNA damage. Only small pilot studies have evaluated the role of ARID1A mutation in colorectal cancer (CRC). The aim of present study was to explore the potential impact of ARID1A mutation on clinicopathological and molecular characteristics in CRC.
Methods:
We used integrated datasets of 7,978 CRC cases (one data set from a CLIA-certified laboratory and three independent published data sets). The associations of ARID1A mutation with molecular characteristics including immune profile [the status of microsatellite instability (MSI), tumor mutational burden (TMB), programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1), and estimated-infiltrating immune cells], clinicopathological features, and related pathways were analyzed using next-generation sequencing, RNA-sequencing, and immunohistochemistry.
Results:
ARID1A mutant samples had more genomically unstable tumor features (MSI-high and TMB-high) and exhibited more characteristics of a T-cell-inflamed microenvironment [PD-L1 expression, and high esti
