    This paper examines a two stage game where information is endogenously acquired prior to single o... more This paper examines a two stage game where information is endogenously acquired prior to single object common value auctions. In stage one, bidders choose the quality of their information service. Stage two then examines strategic behavior in bonus bid and royalty rate auctions, conditional on stage one information. Comparisons are drawn between the information quality selected at each auction, enherant inefficiencies, and the resulting revenues generated. It is shown that while the standard revenue advantage of the royalty rate auction over the bonus bid auction is reduced, the royalty rate auction creates fewer inefficiencies than does the bonus bid auction when costly information is endogenously chosen.
