De fick under 2009 skivkontrakt. Deras största hit är "I Love It", skriven av Patrik Berger, Linus Eklöw och Charlotte Aitchison (Charli XCX). Under en tids arbete i London har de fått internationell uppmärksamhet med bland annat debutsingeln "Manners". Från september 2012 hade duon sin bas i Los Angeles och i New York men sedan 2020 är de tillbaka i Sverige[3].
Historik
[redigera | redigera wikitext]Aino Jawo och Caroline Hjelt träffades på en fest i februari 2009 och bildade Icona Pop. Efter fyra veckor hade de skrivit låtar till sin första spelning. Två år senare beskrev duon sin musik som ”hårda galopperande trummor, syntar och klassiska popmelodier”.[4]
Den utländska pressen (NME, The Guardian, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork m.fl) har gett gruppen god kritik.[5][6][7] The Guardian kallade debutsingeln ”Manners” för ”effortlessly cool”.[8] Duon arbetade i studion med bland andra Style of Eye, Patrick Berger (Robyn), Elof Loelv (Niki & The Dove) och Starsmith (Kylie, Ellie Goulding).[9] Hösten 2012 släpptes debuta

[bewerken | brontekst bewerken]Hjelt en Jawo groeiden beiden op in Stockholm. Ze ontmoetten elkaar op een feestje in februari 2009 en vormen sindsdien een duo. Vier weken later hadden ze al liedjes geschreven voor hun eerste gezamenlijke optreden. Nog in hetzelfde jaar tekenden ze een contract met het platenlabel TEN Music Group.
Het duo beschrijft hun muziek als "klassieke popmelodieën met drum en synthesizer". Ze werkten in de studio met verschillende producers, zoals Style of Eye, Patrick Berger (Robyn), Elof Loelv (Niki & The Dove) en Starsmith.
Het duo was al vroeg internationaal actief, met optredens in onder meer de Verenigde Staten, Duitsland, Italië en het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Hun debuutsingle Manners werd uitgebracht door Neon Gold bij Kitsuné Music, en hun epNights like this bij Mercury Records. In
